Tonna Male Voice Choir in Search for Pianist
A Neath choir is desperately seeking an accompanist in order to keep almost 50 years of history alive, but so far it seems that pianists are like gold dust in South West Wales.
Tonna Male Voice Choir is also looking for a musical director to help its 40 odd members continue their long tradition of supporting charities and voluntary groups across the UK.
Martin Davies, the choir’s publicity officer, said: “In common with all choirs is the need for able pianists and musical directors to provide the necessary guidance and support.
“We currently have one accompanist on leave-of-absence due to other commitments; another accompanist who will shortly be undertaking civic commitments and another, young accompanist, who is juggling membership of the County Youth Orchestra with schoolwork and other musical duties.
“It seems that the pool of pianists who are able and willing to play a part in helping such choirs is dry and we are making an appeal for anyone who is out there to make themselves heard.
“We would love to hear from able pianists who have experience in teaching music — maybe someone who has recently retired and can accompany the choir and attend rehearsals once or twice a week.”
