Worlds biggest piano goes on tour.
The World’s largest piano is set to make its second grand tour at the end of August 2014. The piano’s maker Mr Adrian Mann, says he is looking forward to taking the ‘grand’ piano on its latest journey to Auckland and Hamilton at the end of the month. Logistics experts will take the one and a half tonne piano from its piano storage shed on August 30 to display it at an Auckland piano shop for a month.
Adrian Mann, 25, will travel with the 5.7 metre piano on its trip and take part in workshops with secondary school students. “Some will be about music, some will be about telling the story of the piano,” Mann says. The piano will then make an appearance in an Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra concert featuring a guest pianist. Mann says the orchestra “were quite keen to get it” for the concert.
The piano maker is glad to see the piano being put to good use. “It can’t sit there gathering dust,” he said. Further concerts will be held in later on in the Year with this piano. The piano has been to Maungati, Oamaru and Dunedin. The logistic companies manager Nathan Kippenberger said the firm had moved it before and were glad to help with some of the cost of shifting the piano. Although the piano is uninsurable and difficult to transport, the firm’s workers enjoyed the challenge, he said.
