Popular Lounge Pianist Dies In Freak Accident
Popular lounge pianist Jimmy Falzone died in what authorities say was a freak accident in his garage in Palm Beach Gardens.
Falzone, 59, died while listening to music on his car radio after pulling into his garage and shutting the door.
Falzone apparently forgot to turn off the engine, says Palm Beach County Medical Examiner Dr. Michael Bell.
“We believe it’s an unfortunate accident,” Bell said. “Mr. Falzone was known to listen to music in his car in his garage. This time around, the engine was running and he died of carbon monoxide intoxication.”
Falzone and singer Rene Casey took their lounge act throughout the country after a chance meeting in 1985, and eventually settled down in Palm Beach in the late 1990s. The duo played almost nightly at different restaurants in PBG, Jupiter and North Palm Beach.
They were supposed to perform at Carmine’s Saturday night.
Falzone never showed up: One of his two adult children found him on the driver’s seat of his car. The engine wasn’t running because ran out of gas.
“He was a very talented pianist,” Casey said. “He never played the same song twice in the same way. He was a very interesting musician.
“I talked to him a few hours before he got home that night. He did tell me he was very tired.”
