Sir Elton John To Receive Brits Icon Award
Sir Elton John is set to be the first ever person to receive the Brits Icon Award, a significant new gong created by the British Recorded Music Industry (BPI), Gigwise reports.
The award will become part of the Brit Awards ceremonies and will honor artists who have had a huge impact on British culture with their writing, recording and performing.
Speaking of the Brits Icon Award, Sir Elton said: “It’s a tremendous honor and a real thrill for me to have my work acknowledged in this way, and I’m really looking forward to participating in what promises to be a very special occasion.”
The 66-year-old pop icon will be inducted at a ceremony in London on Monday, 2 September which will be broadcast on ITV later in that month.
The evening is set to include live performances and an interview with Sir Elton as well as some guest appearances.
