Saturday, July 20th, 2013

Cobb County police arrested prominent pianist Todd Skrabanek and charged him with possessing and distributing child pornography.

Detectives said Skrabanek, 46, worked with children throughout metro Atlanta giving piano lessons. They said they are concerned about the possibility of victims throughout the metro Atlanta area.

Police said they want to hear from anyone who took lessons from Skrabanek.

“You may have a child who took lessons from this individual, who were told never ever tell anyone else,” said Sgt. Dana Pierce, with Cobb County police.

The department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit found evidence leading to Skrabanek. Detectives said they found child porn in his Marietta condo.

According to police records, the pornography included pictures and videos with victims as young as 1-year-old.

For years, Skrabanek has played at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra chorus rehearsals. An ASO spokesperson said he was not a teaching artist with their education department.

Skrabanek also provided piano accompaniment at the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on Emory’s Campus.

Dr. P. Alice Rogers, the senior pastor at Glenn Memorial UMC released the following statement:

“The accused had provided piano accompaniment to various musical organizations in the metro area, including rehearsals for a total of two hours a week here at our church. We are not aware of any connection between the case and our church.”

Detectives said they have hundreds of images to go through and are trying to identify the victims.

Police said Skrabanek is being held without bond at the Cobb County Detention Center, charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography.
