Lead Singer Of Band In Night Club Fire Arrested
The lead singer of Gurizada Fandangueira, the band that was performing when a fire broke out at Santa Maria’s Kiss nightclub on Sunday night, has been arrested, the BBC reports. Police also arrested two of the club’s owners and its security chief in connection with the blaze, which was reportedly sparked by pyrotechnics set off during the band’s set.
Gurizada Fandangueira, a Brazilian country pop group, is known for its use of special effects in its stage show. Billboard notes that the band prides itself on “a great deal of innovation in the stage set up, visual effects and pyrotechnics, which makes all the difference in the unique identity of the band” on its Facebook page.
Eliel de Lima, Gurizada Fandangueira’s drummer, told Globo’s G1 that the band’s accordion player Danilo Jaques died in the blaze. Meanwhile, two members of the opening band are reportedly still missing.
